On paper this was a one-hour recap of a youth baseball championship. In reality it was an introduction. The trap was tone. Put two properties, The Ripken Experience and Cooperstown All Star Village, inside a branded show and it usually tips into a sales pitch. Shoot a kids' tournament and it usually reads as little league.
So we made a modern sports doc. Real baseball read as real baseball. The properties lived inside the story instead of interrupting it. And CBS came away happy with both halves of the job, the content and the process, which is the part that opens the next door.
