A division of Voodoo Kayaks Inc, Riot kayaks has been responsible for much of the massive innovation that has taken place in the sport of whitewater kayaking over the previous 5 years. For the 2003 season, they had 3 major criteria for their product catalog – 1) it must highlight the technological superiority of the kayaks they produce 2) the style should be crisp and clean and most importantly 3) the catalog should convey the unique sensations and enjoyment of paddling a Riot kayak – in other words the “fun factor!”
Starting with the cover, we wanted something that was completely different than anything that had ever been done in the whitewater industry. After several prototypes, we finally settled upon the surreal liquid concept you see here. This image has that undeniable “cool factor.” In the world of whitewater kayaking, where virtually every catalog has a similar kayaking picture on the cover, this concept sets Riot Kayaks apart right from the get go.
